From its beginnings in Troy in 1891, Sacred Heart Parish Catholic Church has been a well-known part of the Troy community.

Troy, Mo. - Professional athletes walk a fine line between intimidating and inspiring. With larger-than-life personas, physiques and talents, these individuals influence distinguishes them from the common man.

While professional athletes choose (and earn) their social status, make no mistake, they have hearts just like everyone else. Closest to local Pro-wrestler and WLW (World League Wrestling) booker Leland Race’s heart, are animals.

“Animals are absolutely near and dear to [my] heart,” states Race. “On July 25, [this] area received a substantial amount of rain, bringing [flash floods] with it. The Stray Paws Rescue animal shelter in St. Peters was devastated; some of the animals could not be saved, including some puppies, [and] this broke our hearts. It’s WLW’s turn to help out.”

The flash floods that Race referred to occurred due to the record setting rainfall that happened in late July, when up to a foot of rain hit the St. Louis metropolitan area, causing millions of dollars in damages. According to the Stray Paws animal shelter, some creatures did not survive the flooding.

After getting their bearings back following the flood, Stray Paws has commenced to repairing their building and opening back up as quickly as possible. In Stray Paws’ journey to provide care for wayward critters, volunteers from multiple counties, including Lincoln County, have rallied behind the non-profit. Stray Paws describes the community support for them as, “Overwhelming—[We] appreciate it beyond words.”

Race looks to support Stray Paws by making the next WLW event, Summer Showdown, a fundraiser for the animal rescue outfit. The series of bouts, which boasts a marquee championship rematch between tag team champs “High Level Enterprise” against “Dysfunction,” promises to do more than entertain this August 13.

WLW will be raffling off items “Extremely rare for fans to see,” according to Race. A free raffle ticket will be given to each person who donates a pet-care supply in lieu of making a cash purchase; each item is worth one raffle ticket, and an item bundle is also worth a raffle ticket.

Stray Paws is looking for cone collars, medicated dog shampoo, stainless steal puppy bowls, slip leashes, dog beds and more. Further information can be found on the World League Wrestling’s and Stray Paws animal rescue’s respective websites and Facebooks.

Race, along with the WLW family, is happy to be helping Stray Paws, and encourages others to do the same, sharing, “[Come] be part of something great while helping those who can’t help themselves.
